Secondary School:

Secondary education in Canada offers a variety of schools, programs and formats, each designed to meet different student needs. The Canadian secondary school system includes public international high schools, private international high schools, boarding schools, all-girls schools, all-boys schools and Catholic or other Christian high schools. This wide range of options gives students looking at schools in Canada great choices for their education.

Likewise, tuition can vary depending on whether the student is looking to attend a Canadian public high school, a religiously-affiliated high school, or a private high school. Costs will also depend on whether they are at a boarding school or will need separate accommodation. Regardless of affiliation, location, cost or school type, secondary schools in Canada are all held to provincial government standards of quality, ensuring that all international secondary school students in Canada have access to a world-class educational opportunity.

Post Secondary School

Now more than ever, parents and students from around the world are choosing Canada as a top study destination. Depending on where you were educated, admission requirements can vary.

There are more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate degree programs available in Canadian universities, from certificates to PhDs and everything in between. Universities and university colleges focus on degree programs but may also offer some diplomas and certificates, often in professional designations. University degrees are offered at three consecutive levels:

  • Bachelor's level students can enter after having successfully completed secondary school. Bachelor's degrees require three or four years of full-time study, but this depends on the province and whether the program is general or specialized.

  • A Post-graduate Diploma or Master's Degree typically requires two years of study after the bachelor's degree.

  • For a Doctoral Degree, three to five years of additional study and research plus a dissertation are the normal requirements.
